Training & development
The Centre has been involved in a range of training research projects with the police service. Initially, at a generic level looking at ways of making training more effective (minimising the time away from the job and exploring the potential of e-learning by developing a model of the key factors involved in the uptake and evaluation of e-learning in organisations) and looking at training needs for technical skills. At a more specific level the Centre has assisted with the training side of developing the national firearms curriculum. Outside of the police service the Centre has also critically analysed the overseas training of Chinese managers and developed a new framework for the evaluation of such programmes.
Recent Projects Include:
- An evaluation of the potential effectiveness of computer-based training in the Police Service (1998-2006)
- The Training of China's Managers: An analysis and evaluation of using overseas training for management development (2003-2008) SunXiao, Catharine Ross, Jan Francis-Smythe. Review of Police Firearms Training Curriculum (2002). Jan Francis-Smythe
