Susie has taken a lead role in developing sport related partnerships at local, regional, national and international level to support the work of the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science. In 2011, she completed a PhD ĎA Comparative Analysis of Sport for All Policy and Provision for the Elderly in England, Canada and Australia (1975 to 2005)í to compliment the University of Worcester (UW) Seniors Sport and Exercise Programme developed in conjunction with the University of Third Age (U3A). Therein, she was a member of the HE steering group behind the inception of the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS), and has since embedded both TASS and the 2012 Scholarship scheme at UW. Susie has been an active member of the management team behind the†Worcester Wolves Basketball Club since 2000.

Professional Interests

An ongoing Seniors Project (established in 2001) running in conjunction with the University of Third Age (U3A) which involves the provision of weekly fitness classes for those aged 60+ years, men and women. The programme involves mentoring seniors to run outreach groups in the local area. With the opening of the UW McClelland Centre for Health and Wellbeing in 2011, expansion is planned to work with Worcester City Council and Age UK.

Research Interests

Applied work in the field of Seniors Sport and Exercise. UW offers an extensive range of weekly exercise and physical activity classes aimed at people aged 60 plus years, including adapted netball, badminton, ladies fitness, menís circuit training, and mixed gym classes. The Herefordshire and Worcestershire County Sport Partnership have recognised the potential of this work and in 2012 awarded grant funding to further support development of the programme.
