About the Institute

The University of Worcester has a proven record of excellence in the field of sport and exercise science, with plenty to offer anyone who has an enthusiasm for sport, exercise and health.

Top class facilities

The fact that we have been selected as a training base for athletes preparing for the 2012 Olympic Games is testament to the strength to our facilities. We have a multi-purpose indoor sports centre, two floodlit synthetic pitches, an exercise physiology suite, two further sports science laboratories, nutrition laboratory, teaching rooms, gymnasium and dance studio.

Our innovative Motion and Performance Centre is one of the University’s most prestigious facilities. The Centre has expertise in a wide range of areas, ranging from Physical Activity, Exercise and Health to Biomechanics and Sport and Exercise Physiology.

Sporting links

The University has a particular strength in basketball. Our men’s and women’s teams have both enjoyed considerable success. The British Basketball League’s Worcester Wolves are also based on campus. The University also has good links with the region’s sports teams, particularly Worcester Rugby Club, Worcestershire County Cricket Club, Worcester Hockey Club and Worcester Rowing Club.

The University recently became the UK partner of a newly established European basketball research centre. The FIBA European Centre for Basketball Research is hosted by the University, along with the Lithuanian Academy for Physical Education and the Lithuanian Basketball Federation. It aims to lead the development and delivery of world class basketball research and bring together academics and coaches from around Europe to engage in and disseminate performance relevant research findings.

Scholarship opportunities

If you are already involved in competitive sport, we offer sports scholarships in basketball, cricket and hockey. You’ll have to meet certain academic and performance criteria, but the scholarships are a great way to combine study with competitive sport.
