Working with schools

The Institute has many links with schools and colleges, enabling local students to experience higher education and take advantage of our excellent facilities and expertise.

We offer a range of services for teachers and careers advisers, aimed at supporting you and your students through every stage of the transition from school to university.

We organise activities for students and teachers visiting the University and also take activities out into schools and colleges. At a variety of levels, we give insights into current research, explain degree and career options and generally enthuse the next generation to study more science!

School Children explore Darwin's theories

A play exploring evolution was performed to hundreds of schoolchildren at the University of Worcester, in a bid to help children to focus on the dilemmas associated with faith and science.

Worcester’s Professor John Newbury has been leading a drama/education project commissioned by the Biochemical Society, which educates pupils about theories of evolution and correct creationist misconceptions. “One really interesting thing about the play is that it is performed in science labs, rather than on a stage – which makes for a more engaging experience for the young audience and allows some interactive elements.”

The play, called Hive9, is performed by two professional actors, including former Eastenders actress Suzie McGrath. 500 year 9 and 10 students attended the play over the course of the week.
