Research centres & groups

The University of Worcester has sought to develop specific areas of research excellence through the establishment of Research Centres and Research Groups in these areas. We are committed through our Research and Knowledge Transfer Strategy to supporting the continued development of these areas and to the support of further emerging areas of excellence.

Our Research Centres are important vehicles for the development of excellence and of capacity in focused areas of research and consultancy. The University has invested substantially in both the infrastructure and staffing of its two biggest centres: the Association for Dementia Studies (ADS) and the National Pollen & Aerobiology Research Unit (NPARU). Led by a Director who holds the primary responsibility for the development and management of the Centre, it is an expectation that all Centres will become self-financing through research and consultancy work.

Our Research Groups bring together researchers with shared research interests, sometimes working within a single academic Institute, sometimes working across Institutes, to enable a range of collaborative activity, including publication and dissemination, research funding bids, consultancy work and external engagement activities. The Groups have a designated Head whose role is to coordinate activity within the Group.
