National Teaching Fellowship
Her (Dr Val Chapman’s) dedication to the provision of equal opportunities and her deep understanding of learners’ individual needs is appreciated by students and her institution alike, and her contribution to excellence in learning and teaching is demonstrated by appointments as a QAA institutional auditor, as Chair (currently Treasurer) of the Higher Education Equal Opportunities Network (HEEON) and by her involvement with HEFCE funded projects to develop strategies for inclusivity. Val will use her NTFS award to continue this work on inclusivity. The funds will enable her to make international research visits and to create and publish resources online.
A substantial aspect of Val’s work has focused on the further development of web-based resource for academic staff, called SCIPS, (Strategies for Creating Inclusive Programmes of Study), an online database that is searchable by discipline, skills and /or disability. Val’s experience and expertise are increasingly called on through invitations to deliver staff development and to present at conferences both in the UK and overseas.
From October 2006 to 2008, Val held the position of a UNESCO funded Chair in Special Educational Needs at the University of Qatar, Doha, which she managed alongside her Worcester commitments.
