Proposed Research Title: 1960s Marvel Comics: Reflection of historical context and propaganda
The focus of this research seeks to validate the American comic book as a historical source, an often under represented primary source. The thesis will investigate the body of comics published by the Marvel Comics Group during the 'long 1960s' as a form of class expression to the political and civil unrest and social changes prevalent through 1960s America. Furthermore, the study seeks to analyse representations of the enemy and military, as well as interrogating comics as a source for gauging the impact of official government propaganda and as a medium to disseminate class ideas.
