As a Biologist, I find all aspects of living organisms fascinating. My interests range from the physiology and behaviour of large agricultural animals to the ecology of Bryophytes, the latter being one of my main research interests.

I also carry out research on learning and teaching.  Debbie Holmes and I, together with other Biology tutors, developed a Personal Development Planning scheme which is unique to Worcester. One aspect of this is that it recognises and records the skills which our students can gain, including the practical skills. Nearly all of the Biological Sciences modules contain a great deal of practical and/or field work and our PDP scheme allows students to make good use of these to improve their employability.

I also developed an extended induction programme for our first year students to ease their path into undergraduate life.

My interest in biodiversity has led to me becoming the Chair of the University’s Strategic Biodiversity Management Group which has been instrumental in the University gaining the Platinum EcoCampus Award.

I received the Student Recognition Award for Promoting Learning 2009-10 for my Botany module.
