English as a Foreign Language

If English is not your first language and you would like to improve it, the University of Worcester Language Centre offers a range of classes and modules. University students who are unable to come to regular classes can also make use of the Language Support we offer.


Pre-sessional courses

4-week, 6-week and 12-week programmes

The Language Centre's pre-sessional courses are 4-week, 6-week or 12-week programmes for international students who have an offer from a British University for September 2012 but:

  • need to raise their IELTS or equivalent score
  • want to improve their level of general and academic English 
  • seek an introduction to academic English and develop their study skills to succeed in UK Higher Education

IELTS

IELTS* preparation classes

This course is ideal for you if:

  • you want to improve your English by working towards a recognised qualification
  • you need to demonstrate to your employer or sponsor that you have made progress while studying
  • you need to prove your language level for entrance to a school, college or university, or for prospective employment

*IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System

General English classes

If you live within traveling distance from the University of Worcester and want to improve your English, you can join our part-time evening classes.

The classes cover:

EFL undergraduate modules

Modules for undergraduate students

As an undergraduate, you can select English as a Foreign Language modules as one of your ‘free’ modules in your first and second year. Each module counts for 15 credit points towards your degree. Modules include:

  • Academic English and Study Skills
  • Academic and General English (Intermediate to advanced)
  • English Language and the British Context
