Resources for English and modern foreign languages

Our specialist library situated in Bredon stocks an extensive range of materials for learners of English as a foreign language, from beginner to advanced level.

We also offers a range of language resources for beginners and post-beginners of Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

Using your student card you can borrow language learning material for independent study.

Students who want to improve their academic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills can use the English for Academic Purposes toolkit, which is installed on the computers in our self-access study room, BB76.

Our Language Adviser and Technician, Judy Barker, can help you selecting materials that are suitable for you and advise you on how to use equipment and software.

One-to-one English support

Drop-in sessions

Students whose first language is not English can get advice on how to improve their English-language skills in our daily drop-in sessions.

  • The sessions take place from 12.30-14.30 every weekday during the University teaching semester.
  • You can either book an appointment in advance or just turn up and let the tutor know that you are waiting. Students who have not booked a slot will be seen in the order in which they arrive.
  • To book an appointment, please fill in your name, student number and contact email address on the door of room BB 076.
  • Due to the popularity of the sessions, you can only pre-book one slot per week.
  • The tutor can advise you on grammar, style or structure, but cannot correct all your mistakes or proofread your work.
  • Book your appointment at least 1-2 weeks before your assignment deadline, so you have time to make changes.

Important:
Make sure you cancel your appointment if you cannot make it, otherwise you will not be able to book further appointments.

To cancel, email languagecentre@worc.ac.uk or phone 01905 855241
