Janet has a career background in health service management and education. She began her career in human resources and hospital management before moving into teaching in UK and abroad. She established a Kindergarten in Somerset in 1994 and from there joined the University of Worcester in 1997. Since then she has worked to develop and expand the Institute of Education’s range of programmes, partnerships and curriculum quality through various positions as course and curriculum leader for Early Childhood and Education Studies, as chairperson for the Learning & Teaching sub-committee and as Head of Centre for Early Childhood. She introduced Sector-endorsed programmes with six partners across the West Midlands and led regional delivery of two national qualifications - for Children’s Centre Leaders (NPQICL) and Early Years Professionals (EYPS). She continues to support, promote and enhance partnership working across and beyond the Region in her part-time role as Head of Partnership Development which she took up in 2010.
Janet continues to support Early Childhood practice and provision in a voluntary capacity for a Family Centre (charity) as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and she is also a member of the Hereford Early Years Forum.
Her research interests and publications relate to Early Childhood leadership and professional identity and she has recently co-authored a book on ‘Reconceptualizing Leadership in the Early Years’.
