BSECS Postgraduate and Early Career Conference 2010

British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies Postgraduate and Early Career Conference 2010

Call for Papers

The British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies’ Annual Conference is Europe’s largest and most prestigious conference dealing with all aspects of the history, literature, and culture of the long eighteenth century. In addition to the main conference BSECS also host a biennial conference intended for postgraduate students and early-career academics and researchers.

The 2010 conference will be held at the University of Worcester on the 25th and 26th June 2010.

We invite proposals for individual papers, for full panels of three papers, and for roundtable sessions. We also welcome proposals for workshops and sessions in other innovative formats.

While proposals on all and any eighteenth-century topics are welcome, the conference theme this year is ‘Individuals’. We would therefore particularly welcome proposals for papers that address understandings and expressions of the individual, throughout the long eighteenth century and in any part of the world.

Papers should be 20 minutes long, while roundtable talks are normally around 10 minutes in length.  Enquiries relating to workshops and other proposals that make use of innovative formats should be addressed to the postgraduate representatives.

The official languages of the conference are English and French. Presentations in other languages are acceptable if transcripts in English or French are available for the audience.200-300-word abstracts of proposed papers, panels, or roundtables (including names of speakers, panel chair, and summaries of papers in the case of comprised panels and roundtables) should be submitted to the postgraduate representatives via email at postgrad@bsecs.org.uk

The deadline for submission of proposals has been extended to Sunday 28th February 2010.
