Being a Physiotherapist was the only thing I ever wanted to be, and it still is, although I am now a lecturer. After competing at the Olympic Games in Seoul in swimming in 1988, I took a year out to swim and then began my physiotherapy education.  I graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 1993 and moved to Birmingham after an inspirational elective placement at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. I rotated through a variety of specialties, enjoying them all, finally specialising in musculo-skeletal paediatric physiotherapy. I was also lucky enough to work in elite sport in Swimming and Judo alongside my NHS career.

Following my Master’s degree in Learning and Teaching in 2001, I commenced my journey into Higher Education having greatly enjoyed teaching and supporting physiotherapy students on placement. I became a Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, and became the Admissions Tutor.  I was delighted to commence the Course Leader role in Physiotherapy in February 2013, and am also the Admissions Tutor here at Worcester.

Teaching Interests

I enjoy all aspects of teaching and learning, working with the new students in year 1 as they commence their professional education through the transition into qualified physiotherapists in their final year! I teach across all three years, specifically Anatomy and Movement Science, Team-working, and working with children and young people. My teaching style is very interactive and student-centred and aims to make theory relevant and applied to physiotherapy practice in all teaching sessions. I also love to work across professional boundaries, teaching on Occupational Therapy, Advancing Practice and Physicians Associate programmes in the Institute.       

Research Interests

My current Doctoral research is exploring the “The learning experiences of student physiotherapists with visual impairments”. My other research interests include the experiences of disabled students, student experience and academic support, and practice education.
