Haydn Jarrett

Haydn joined the University in 2001 having previously been Head of the Department of Sports Studies at the University of Wolverhampton. His passion is teaching and his area of professional interest is physical activity and health, in particular ‘clinical exercise’ and ‘walking for health’. He has been involved in a large number of international, national and regional initiatives to promote physical activity that have brought in some £4.75 million to the Worcester/University economy and is currently working on a number of projects including an EU funded European Degree In Physical Activity and Lifestyle Counselling (PALC) and healthy eating and exercise programmes among breast cancer survivors as part of his work at the University’s McClelland Centre for Health and Wellbeing.

  • The development of a support package for lifestyle change in Prostate Cancer Survivors in Worcestershire with Worcestershire Royal Hospital (2010-present)
  • The development of an Erasmus funded European Degree entitled ‘Physical Activity and Lifestyle Counselling’ (PALC). (2009-Present)
  • The Evaluation of 3x Natural England/DoH ‘National Step-o-meter Programmes’ for promoting walking for health (2002, 2003, 2008)
  • Bidding team and steering committee member for Worcester 'Choose how you move project'. £4 million Department of Transport grant awarded to Worcester as a ‘Sustainable Transport Pilot Project’ (2004-2007)
  • Exercise Physiologist for the ‘Exercise and Angioplasty in Claudication Trial (EXACT)’ supported by Health Technologies Assessment, (2002-2005)

Teaching

There are two main areas that Haydn loves teaching: firstly, the area of physical activity/exercise and its relationship with health and disease, and secondly, the physiology of outdoor adventure sports. Trying to bring these topics to life for our undergraduate students is the primary focus of his work here at the University.
