The Institute of Education works in close partnership with many schools and other settings across the region, ensuring best practice and building links for teaching placements and future employment.

The Secondary Partnership works with partner schools or educational settings including Academies, high schools, Teaching Alliances, further education colleges, independent schools, special schools and pupil referral units. 

This Partnership services the initial teacher education requirements of the postgraduate programmes to offer Qualified Teacher Status for a specific age range (11-16 with post 16 enhancement and 14-19), as well as providing opportunities for school led provision through School Direct Training. All postgraduate programmes offer Master’s level accreditation.

We offer courses in twelve subjects: Art and Design, Design and Technology (food), ICT/Computer Science, English, Geography, History, Maths, Modern Languages, PE, Psychology (14-19), Business with Economics (14-19), Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and Religious Education. 

All trainees can also select one optional Enhancement Activities in Special Educational Needs, PSHE and Citizenship, English as an Additional Language (EAL), Teaching a Second Subject, Technology Enhanced Learning,Teenage Mental Health, Education for Climate Emergency and Educational Research. In addition we also offer an Aspiring Leaders programme.
