National Scholarship Fund for teachers
In 2011 the government announced the creation of a National Scholarship Scheme to support the professional development of teachers. During the first round scholarships were awarded to successful applicants who are teachers with QTS working in eligible schools. In 2011/12 the scholarship scheme focussed on the priority areas of:
- Maths
- Science
- English
- Special Educational Needs (SEN) including on specific impairments and disabilities.
50% of the scholarships were awarded to teachers wishing to undertake development in the field of SEN.

The government’s preference is for the scholarship to be used for Masters level professional development.
A Masters degree at the University of Worcester’s Institute of Education offers very good value for money, so that the maximum scholarship value of £3,500 will cover a high proportion of the fees at this University.
The Institute of Education would like to encourage teachers to take advantage of the new funding opportunity in association with this University.
