I am a vet by training and have spent time in large, small and exotic animal practice in England, Germany and Zimbabwe. My teaching is very much informed by this practical experience as well as my research experience (particularly from my time at Cambridge University where I completed my PhD on cadmium in the human food chain particularly investigating the accumulation of cadmium in animals). My interests are also shaped by my study of philosophy, resulting in a strong interest in animal welfare and ethics.

I was awarded the first University of Worcester teaching fellowship, based on ‘inspirational teaching’, within the Institute of Science and the Environment, and have worked on a number of pedagogical projects, such as an enhanced induction for prospective top-up students, taster days and two theatre in education productions that aimed to engage school children and FE college students in scientific issues using the media of drama (‘Little Miracles’ and ‘A Life Worth Living’).
