Dr Carruthers joined the University of Worcester in April 2008, originally on secondment from the Commission for Rural Communities. During his secondment (2008 – 2011), he developed and taught a new module on ‘people in the countryside’, and gave lectures on environmental and land ethics. He also researched and wrote on land and rural ethics and acted as an Expert Advisor to the Commission for Rural Communities, playing a major role in the Commission’s ‘inquiry into the future for England’s upland communities’ (published June 2010). Current research interests include land and environmental ethics and ethical approaches to rural policy. Voluntary roles included membership of the Board of Farm Crisis Network, as a trustee since 1995 and as Chairman from 2006 – 2010.
