Dr Paola Botham

Paola Botham (née Sotomayor) was born in Chile, where she worked as a cultural journalist and textbook writer, as well as participating in a range of theatre productions. Since moving to the UK in 2001, she has been researching and lecturing in drama at Worcester University, where she completed her doctoral thesis “Redefining Political Theatre in Post-Cold War Britain (1990-2005): An Analysis of Contemporary British Political Plays”.

Paola’s teaching and research interests include twentieth-century and contemporary British theatre, Spanish and Latin American drama, political theatre and critical theory

Publications
She has presented numerous papers at international conferences and is an active member of the Political Performances Working Group of IFTR (International Federation for Theatre Research). She has contributed articles to the journals Contemporary Theatre Review and Cátedra de Artes, and the edited volume Political Performances: Theory and Practice (Rodopi, 2009). She is currently working on a chapter about Caryl Churchill for the book Modern British Playwriting: The Seventies, edited by Chris Megson as part of a new series to be published by Methuen.
