Dr Claire Cochrane

Claire Cochrane’s teaching and research interests range widely. She is the author of two books on the Birmingham Repertory Theatre: Shakespeare and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre 1913-1929 and Birmingham Rep: A City’s Theatre 1962-2002, and has just completed Twentieth Century British Theatre: Industry, Art and Empire to be published by Cambridge University Press. She has written on Shakespeare in performance and on the development of contemporary Black British and British Asian theatre.

While she teaches a broad range of modules, she is responsible for specialist modules in medieval theatre, Shakespeare and Renaissance drama in performance and new writing for the theatre. For public performance modules she has directed modern plays such as Tennessee Williams’ Suddenly Last Summer and Timberlake Wertenbaker’s The Love of the Nightingale and Renaissance plays such as Volpone, The Duchess of Malfi, All’s Well that Ends Well and Hamlet. 

She is Course Leader for MA Performance Studies.
