Registered General Nurse

My career in nursing began in the early 1990s. After having worked in a variety of surgical and medical settings I developed an interest in HIV, first working with children and babies who were HIV positive in Romania and later with adults, at the West Midlands Regional Centre for HIV.  I then went on to work in sexual health before becoming a Research Nurse at Birmingham University and a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Immunology.

In 1999 I moved to London where I continued to practice clinically and commenced my career as a Senior Lecturer.  My first post was with Middlesex University, followed by the Royal College of Nursing Institute, the Open University and, more recently, the University of Worcester.

At Worcester I have continued to develop my clinical interests in HIV and sexual health through teaching and research. In addition, I teach Research Methods, Leadership, Change Management and Quality Improvement.  I also lead curriculum development at Masters level. I completed my Doctorate in 2016.  Since then I have been fortunate enough to undertake post-doctoral research in the Netherlands by securing a Winston Churchill Travel Fellowship.  I also undertake commissioned NHS evaluations and other forms of research.

Teaching & Research

Teaching & Research

Teaching

My areas of teaching span Sexual Health and HIV, Research Methods, Leadership, Change Management and Quality Improvement.  I also supervise students who are undertaking research at Degree, Masters and Doctoral levels.

Research Interests

My research interests mirror my teaching in that they are primarily focused on Sexual Health Promotion, Leadership, Change Management and Quality Improvement.  My doctorate focused on the role of fathers as sexuality educators for their children.  I have since gone on to become a Winston Churchill Fellow and have undertaken research in the Netherlands regarding parent-child sexuality communication.
