Teaching & Research
Her PhD research, completed at Cardiff University and funded by the ESRC, was interdisciplinary between sociolinguistics and sociology. The research investigated the interplay of linguistic practices, linguistic representations, language ideologies and social inclusion between students at three related research sites in West-Wales.
More recently, she has developed a keen interest in health communication and has two research projects on-going. The first of these addresses midwife-patient interactions and the second investigates the role of the Welsh language in the NHS in Wales.
Her research interests remain in the field of sociolinguistics, including sociolinguistic theory, the sociolinguistics of Wales, and interactional sociolinguistics. She also has a keen interest in linguistic ethnography.
During the academic year 2015/2016 Charlotte will be teaching on the following undergraduate modules:
ELAN1000 Describing English
ELAN 1002 History of English
ELAN 2000 Approaches to English Language
ELAN 2002 Language and Power
ELAN 3004 World Englishes
Charlotte will also be supervising a number of independent research projects.
