Business Start-Up

The Business Development Office administers the SPEED WM project and is one of the 8 partner universities across the West Midlands:

SPEED WM: Student Placements for Entrepreneurs in Education West Midlands

About SPEED WM

SPEED WM offers students from any course the opportunity to develop their business ideas whilst studying at University.

As part of the SPEED WM programme you will be given access to the following:
• Business Start-up Training
• Chamber of Commerce membership for 12 months
• £3000-£8000 to spend on setting up your own business
• Promotional package including logo design
• Access to business mentors
• And much more….

The £5million project, partially funded by the European Regional Development Fund, aims to help students become the entrepreneurs of the future and has been running since March 2009.

If you're wondering how SPEED will affect your studies -the programme lasts for 9 months, with the recruitment for the project usually in December ready for a January start. With good time management SPEED can be fitted in around your degree studies.

The principle of the SPEED WM project is to give students (old & new) the opportunity to improve their business skills through the development of a business idea in a supportive environment.

The programme is focused upon the individual’s development and, as a learning opportunity, is intended to benefit irrespective of whether the activity ultimately develops into a successful business.
