Outstanding facilities for study
One of the advantages of coming to Worcester is the opportunity to study, live and learn in first-class facilities.
We are the fastest growing university in the country. With applications more than trebling in the last seven years, we have an exciting future ahead and we’ve invested the money we’ve gained from our growth right back into the University.
St John’s campus
Our home for 60 years, St John’s lovely parkland campus houses everything from a state of the art digital arts centre to brand new science labs.
Recent updates to this campus include: opening two high-quality halls of residence in 2010, brand new science labs, extensive refurbishment of teaching spaces and the Students’ Union building, a new 3-G Astroturf pitch and the creation of more open-access study spaces.
We’ve also recently created a new home for our internationally renowned National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit, which produces the national pollen forecasts. At the heart of this industry standard facility is a unique environmental test chamber, capable of replicating almost any climate in the world.
Riverside
The Garage, a former industrial building with a range of studio and workshop spaces was recently renovated for art students.
The adjacent Riverside building is set to open in September and will provide additional specialised space for the University’s work in Sport, Performance and Dance. It will also have a social learning/internet space for students.
Worcester Arena
By the river, halfway between both campuses, we’re planning to build the Worcester Arena.
The Arena will make a real difference to people’s lives by increasing sport participation from grass roots to elite level. The facilities will cater for disability by design and enable true inclusion. As well as providing a new base for the top league Worcester Wolves basketball team, the Arena will also be an exciting venue for live music and performances.
City Campus
We’ve created a new multi-million pound development on the site of the former Royal Infirmary, offering our students an inspiring place to live and learn. The Georgian building where the British Medical Association was founded in 1832 has been one of Worcester’s most important buildings for over 200 years.
We returned it to the heart of city life as Worcester Business School’s innovative home when it reopened in September 2010. On this brand new campus, students are also enjoying living in our high-quality city Halls, right in the centre of Worcester.
The Hive: an innovative new library
A new multi-million pound Library & History Centre will open in Worcester in 2012.
The beautifully designed centre will create a vibrant learning and meeting space next door to the City Campus.
A partnership project between the University of Worcester and Worcestershire County Council, this will be the first fully integrated University and public library in Europe and will offer a rich variety of resources for students and researchers.
It will also offer students opportunities for volunteering, work placement and part time employment.
The Hive will include around a quarter of a million books, as well as an extensive range of electronic books, databases, journals and multi-media accessible on and off campus.
You will be able to find a comfortable place to study in the centre, from the informal meeting spaces on the lower ground area by the café, to the silent study rooms on the top floor of the building.
