The 5th Annual University of Worcester Birth Conference – 11 July 2012

This one day conference will explore the potential of midwifery and allied services in preparing women and their partners for birth and the transition to parenthood.

Participants will be able to hear keynote speakers and choose from a number of concurrent parallel sessions and interactive workshops designed to complement the conference theme.

All those with an interest in developing services which meet the needs of childbearing women:- clinical midwives, midwife managers, midwives, student midwives, access students, midwife educators, midwife researchers, childbirth educators, health visitors and related professionals and voluntary sector workers in the fields of women’s health, public health and reproductive health.

Standard Rate: £85    (Early Bird: £70)

Interested presenters from Midwifery, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Consumer Organisations and the National health Service are invited to submit abstracts on the following aspects of education in preparation for birth and parenthood.

Group 1: Innovations in antenatal education that promote normality
Group 2: Parenting education initiatives to support vulnerable women and families
Group 3: Innovations to improve engagement in antenatal education
Group 4: Preparing fathers for birth and the transition to parenthood

How to Submit Your Conference Abstract

Formatting an abstract submission

Please indicate which category you wish to be considered for and insert the headings as they appear below. Make sure that your final abstract submission is no longer than 500 words (including references)

All abstracts will be considered anonymously, so please avoid putting any identifiable information in your abstract submission page.

Headings
Category: Include title of your chosen category.
Title: of your project/research
Background: to your study: literature, type of study, aims and objectives etc.
Methodology/methods: theoretical basis and or data collection methods.
Findings/ Results: main findings can be listed or outlined.
Discussion: of your findings and implications for practice or future work
Conclusion: brief discussion of the overall findings of your work.
Preferred presentation mode: state poster or workshop

NEXT: PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION

1. The category number and title of your paper for submission
2. Your contact details (please include: name, position/post, address, contact telephone number and e-mail address
3. Context/background of the paper (if appropriate):
If the research/study was conducted as part of an educational course of study or work project/audit/professional development
4. Professional or Personal (if appropriate) background information:
A brief biography or your previous and current work experience, include any previous research or innovations you have put into place
5. Ethics Approval, (if appropriate):
Please indicate if ethical approval was obtained and from which organizations

The Submission Process:

1. After completing your abstract and your personal information save them as a word document.
2. Then email your papers to: j.fleet@worc.ac.uk

Final Submission Date: Tuesday 2nd April 2012

Applicants will be notified in writing of the conference panel’s decision within 4 weeks of the submission date.

Successful applicants will be required to book a place at the conference at the appropriate student, full or early bird rate. Expenses incurred by successful presenters will be their responsibility.

The submitted abstract will be taken as the final version and published in the conference documentation.
