Masters in Teaching and Learning

Masters in Teaching & Learning

Teach West Midlands (TWM) is leading the Masters in Teaching and Learning in the region. The MTL is a new award that supports NQTs and new Heads of Departments in certain schools. The MTL aims to develop  professional practice through an enquiry- and practice-based approach to further study.

It is:

  • A TDA fully-funded and accredited Masters-level award;
  • Based in school – focussing on day-to-day practice;
  • Personalised – so teachers can choose their areas to develop, research and study;
  • Designed to develop teaching and learning skills;
  • Based on working with a school-based coach to guide and support the participant through their course.

Who should be interested?

  • New Heads of Department in National Challenge schools or schools facing Challenging Circumstances can apply for the October 2010 intake.
  • NQTs starting their statutory induction year in September 2010 can apply for the April 2011 intake.

Why should you apply?

  • A fully-funded Masters award;
  • A chance to develop your skills and practice;
  • Integrates with your induction/current role;
  • Supports you in promotion;
  • Potential HEI opportunities;
  • Chance to undertake academic study;
  • Could prepare you in the long term for even higher study;
  • If you move schools you can still continue your course.

The MTL programme runs subject to TDA funding.
