  • Business, Accountancy & Human Resource Management BA (Hons)

    This course provides a general business perspective alongside the potential to develop a specialist understanding of Accountancy and Human Resource Management (HRM) - two of the principal business functions which drive organisational success. This course is ideal preparation for a career in accountancy, finance, general business management/consultancy or HRM where managing the financial costs of recruiting, training, retaining, developing and rewarding staff are critical determinants of profitability.

    Specifically, you will develop skills such as numeracy, leadership, team-working, as well as how to make logical decisions; interpret and use management information; manage time, projects and resources; be self-reliant; use initiative and champion an ethical and socially responsible approach to business.

    You will be eligible for exemptions from ACCA, ICAEW and CIMA. ICAEW Partner in Learning study support. Opportunity to obtain Sage 50 accounts certification (fees apply).

  • Business, Human Resource Management & Business Law BA (Hons)

    This course provides a specialist understanding of Business Law and Human Resource Management alongside a general perspective of business . It is ideal preparation for a generalist career in HRM, recruitment or the legal sector. You might work in the legal department of a large organisation, in local or central government/ the civil service, a trade union or human rights organisation or in specialist areas of employment law. It is also an excellent foundation to take a one-year conversion course, if you decide you would ultimately like to work as a qualified solicitor, barrister, etc.

    Specifically, you will develop skills such as how to interpret and use management and regulatory information; manage and support employees; bring a legal mind-set to internal and external management challenges; think creatively; make logical decisions; manage time and resources; work effectively and analytically both as an individual and as a member of a team; to be self-reliant; use initiative and champion a legal, ethical, socially responsible and compassionate approach to business and employment.

  • Business, Human Resource Management & Public Relations BA (Hons)

    This course provides a general business perspective alongside the potential to develop a specialist understanding of Human Resource Management and Public Relations. It is ideal preparation for a starter career in recruitment, employee relations or the exciting and popular world of PR and the media.

    Specifically, you will develop skills such as creative and analytical thinking, logical decision-making, how to interpret and use management information; manage time, projects and resources; be self-reliant; use initiative and champion an ethical and socially responsible approach to business.

    This pathway is recognised by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations as relevant development towards a career in public relations or communications.

  • Business, Leadership & Human Resource Management BA (Hons)

    This course provides a general business perspective alongside the potential to develop a specialist understanding of Leadership and Human Resource Management. It will provide a very relevant foundation for a generalist career in management or HRM, including recruitment where many graduates find fruitful career-start opportunities working initially within specialist recruitment agencies/ consultancies.

    Specifically, you will develop skills such as emotional intelligence and how to define vision and articulate goals; dilemma resolution, team facilitation, self-discipline, initiative, resilience, information gathering, on-target decision making, and an ability to take reasonable risks and deal with the consequences.

  • Business, Management & Human Resource Management BA (Hons)

    This course provides a general business perspective alongside the potential to develop a specialist understanding of Management and Human Resource Management. It is ideal preparation for a generalist career in management or HRM, including recruitment where many graduates find fruitful career-start opportunities working initially within specialist recruitment agencies/ consultancies.

    Specifically, you will develop skills such as managing information, time, projects, resources and risk; as well as how to manage and motivate others; work effectively as a member of a team; define vision and articulate strategy; think creatively and analytically; make logical decisions; be self-reliant; use initiative and champion an ethical and socially responsible approach to business.

  • Business, Marketing & Human Resource Management BA (Hons)

    This course provides a general business perspective alongside the potential to develop a specialist understanding of Marketing and Human Resource Management. This degree will open doors to a wide range of careers including popular graduate entry points in sales and recruitment. It will provide an excellent foundation for a career in senior management as your career and experience develop.

The University will consider each application on its individual merits and will recognise a range of qualifications not currently included in the Tariff, including Access courses, European Baccalaureate and pre-2002 qualifications such as GNVQ. Please contact the Admissions Office for advice.

Applicants with no formal qualifications may be considered for Mature Student Entry Routes.

Teaching and Assessment

How will you be taught?

You will learn how to:

Explore the real-life application of learning via tutors with business experience, via work placement, and via contact with local, national and international businesses – in the past these have included Shell, Barclays Bank and the BBC.

There will be opportunities to take part in projects for clients, visits to businesses, live and computerised simulations, case studies and exhibitions alongside the usual lectures, workshops and seminars. You will develop a range of skills, which you can evidence on your CV and talk about at job interviews

Teaching approach

Worcester is a place where you will be supported to reach your full potential as a self-directed learner ready to make an immediate impact in the world of work. Tutors are friendly, approachable and accessible and virtual resources enable you to work flexibly to suit your own learning preferences and busy lifestyle.

You will progressively build your knowledge and expertise across levels of study through modules which are delivered in different ways, perhaps through traditional lectures and seminars as well as e-lectures, workshops and simulations. In a typical week, you will have 12 hours of scheduled contact time, which you will supplement with one-to-one tutorial meetings and around 20 hours of guided independent study.

Assessment

There are a variety of assessment types – reports, presentations, projects, examinations – and sometimes you will even be able to choose an assessment style to suit you.

  • Sa'ad Ali

    Sa'ad Ali

    Sa’ad is a lecturer in Human Resource Management with research interests in the field of HR in the Arab Middle East. Sa’ad has held a variety of academic and HR roles in both Jordan and the UK and is currently in the final stages of his PhD research which explores the impact of social networks on employee selection practices of banks operating in Jordan.

  • Dr Holly Andrews

    Holly Andrews

    Holly Andrews has been a lecturer with Worcester Business School since 2009. As the employability champion for the business school, Holly runs the work placements scheme and manages the core undergraduate personal development modules.

    Holly is currently studying for a PhD, entitled “An analysis of the influence of psychopathic traits on career development.

  • Dr Rebecca Jones

    Dr Rebecca Jones

    Rebecca is an active researcher investigating the impact of workplace coaching. She is a certified coach and is actively engaged in providing coaching to professionals in industry.

    Rebecca has experience of teaching on a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses and her particular teaching and research expertise lie in personality, training, coaching, performance management, feedback and leadership development.

  • Dr Lynn Nichol

    Dr Lynn Nichol

    Lynn is Head of Leadership, Management and HR Subject Group, a Principal Lecturer in HR and course leader for the Doctorate in Business Administration at Worcester Business School. She is a Chartered Fellow of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academic. She has supervised two PhDs, one DBA and one MRes to completion.

  • Dr Gerry Palmer

    Dr Gerry Palmer

    Gerry teaches subjects related to people management and ethics in the Business School. He has a particular interest in teaching and research concerning workplace relations. He is currently involved in research on men and part time work and also in student employability.

  • Dr Catharine Ross

    Dr Catharine Ross

    Catharine teaches subjects related to people management and ethics in the Business School. Catharine has a particular interest in teaching and research concerning diversity in the workplace. She is currently involved in research on trade unions; men in female-dominated occupations; and management learning.

How much will it cost?

Full-time tuition fees

UK and EU students

The standard annual fee for full-time UK and EU students enrolling in 2016 is £9,000 per year.

The standard annual fee for full-time UK and EU students enrolling in 2017 will be no more than £9,250, subject to approval by Parliament.

Part-time tuition fees

UK and EU students

The standard fees for part-time UK and EU students enrolling on this course in 2016 are £1,125 per 15-credit module, £1,500 per 20 credit module and £2,250 per 30-credit module.

The standard fees for part-time UK and EU students enrolling on this course in 2017 will be no more than £1,156 per 15-credit module, £1,542 per 20 credit module and £2,313 per 30-credit module, subject to approval by Parliament.

Accommodation

Finding the right accommodation is paramount to your university experience, and our welcoming student communities are great places to live and study.

We have over 1,000 rooms across our halls, 358 of which were new in 2009. We offer halls of residence to suit every budget and need, from our 'Traditional Hall' at £91 per week to the £149 per week 'En-suite Extra'.
