Campus & City
The University has been based on its picturesque, parkland campus at St. Johns (on the outskirts of the City of Worcester) since 1947. High demand for places at the University has enabled Worcester to expand and develop a range of new facilities, all within easy walking distance of the St John's campus.
The University has invested millions of pounds in providing first class facilities for students, creating new halls of residence, science laboratories, space for arts and new teaching accommodation. Recent developments include:
- A former Fire and Rescue workshop, now known as The Garage, has been transformed into a specialist arts facility, providing a creative space for students.
-
Regency High School, which adjoins the St John’s Campus, has been purchased and developed into teaching and office space.
-
Four new high quality halls of residence have also opened this year, allowing more students the chance to live on campus.
-
The fifth development to open this year was the Charles Darwin Building, creating a new home for the National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit and high-spec science laboratories for teaching. At the heart of the building is a unique environmental test chamber, capable of replicating almost any climate in the world.
-
Works to the University’s City Site are also progressing well. Internal works to the former Royal Infirmary buildings have now begun and the University’s Business School is due to move onto the site in September 2010.
-
Earlier this year the University purchased a third site, a 47-acre plot of land known as Grove Farm, less than a mile from the St John’s Campus. The University intends to develop a science, enterprise and sports park. Master planners are currently drawing up initial designs for this long-term investment.
What sports facilities are available to students?
