Higher Education MA/PGDip/PGCert

The masters in Higher Education is a work-based learning programme intended to be undertaken alongside, and complementary to, employment supporting HE student learning.

Core modules will help you to gain knowledge, understanding and capabilities in learning, teaching, assessment, research methods and academic practice. The programme encourages participants to articulate the links between current theory and research and the practical context in which they work.

The emphasis is on developing practitioners with clear professional values who understand teaching as facilitating learning and who are constantly seeking to improve their practice in a reflective and theoretically informed way.

The programme will support and develop your learning, teaching and assessment in HE, and increase your understanding of the learning process. The course will also help you gain understanding on HE policy, strategy and quality considerations.

A first or second class Honours Degree

Dissertation

Assessment

Completion of the Masters requires participants to complete an extended piece of research, written up as a dissertation equivalent to either three or four individual modules.

Employability

Completion of the PG Cert in L&T in HE demonstrates that participants have met level 2 of the UK Professional Standards for Teachers in HE. Completion of the first module of the programme, ‘Supporting Student Learning’, demonstrates attainment of level 1 of the Standards.

The PGCert in L&T in HE is accredited by both the Staff and Educational Development Association and the Higher Education Academy. Completion of the PG Cert in L&T in HE carries accreditation at Fellowship level with the HE Academy, module ‘Supporting Student Learning’ carries accreditation at associate fellowship level.
