Tom Davis

The World Cup in Brazil made 2014 a gripping year for all football fans, none more so than Tom Davis.

The 22 year-old studied Journalism and English Language, and graduated at Worcester Cathedral.

During his time at university, Tom was online editor of the Worcester student newspaper, The Voice, and was able to pick up experience writing for a number of sports websites, including Sky Sports and Goal.com.

Since finishing his studies, he has been able to continue this freelance work, writing for Goal.com’s World Cup coverage, reporting on Premier League games and developing his skills as a sub editor.

In September, he began an NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists) diploma, and he will be undertaking a placement at the Birmingham Mail in the New Year.

Tom says: “My work on The Voice was a terrific experience, and it allowed me to do things such as cover the University sports and the floods at the start of this year, as well as set up coverage of local festivals.

“I really enjoyed my course at Worcester. It enhanced my passion for the subjects and allowed me to put things I learnt during lectures into practice in real-life scenarios, which really helped.

“There was also a good scope of things around Worcester to enable me to do that, and getting involved in a society definitely adds to the university experience. So all in all it's definitely been three years well spent.”
