The desire to make a difference was something which Michael Anslow came to represent during his time at the University of Worcester, and it is a trait which he has carried forward after finishing his studies.
Michael, who graduated from the University’s Paramedic Science Foundation degree, won numerous awards for volunteering during his time as a student, and was also awarded the National Union of Students (NUS) Course Representative of the Year award in 2013, after displaying outstanding commitment to his course and colleagues.
Michael says of his time at the University: “I truly believe every student has the entitlement for representation and to contribute towards making the most of their entire university experience. With Student representation being highly regarded at the University of Worcester, I was keen to play a part in enhancing positive changes alongside my university studies.
“I was fortunate enough to be presented with the opportunity to be both a student and subsequently, an institute representative, and to partake in volunteering available both inside and outside of university. The knowledge that I was helping others within these roles made them hugely beneficial and gave me a sense of self-satisfaction.”
Just weeks after finishing his studies, Michael began working as a Paramedic with the West Midlands Ambulance Service, and is currently based at the Dudley ambulance hub.
He continues: “My time spent studying at the University of Worcester has definitely prepared me for my chosen career as a Paramedic. Gaining underpinning knowledge at university, alongside practical application of skills within the placement setting, has enabled me to gain a combined understanding and insight into the role of a Paramedic and this has proved hugely beneficial in the transition from graduate into employment.
“Studying at the University of Worcester provided me with the opportunity to embrace my chosen career and also provided me with the support required to develop professionally.”
Michael has recently enrolled onto a top-up BSc (Hons) course to further his professional development.
