FORMER UNIVERSITY OF WORCESTER STUDENTS      
All former University of Worcester graduates who have successfully completed a BA or BSc award and then move onto a full-time Masters course (MA, MSc or MBA) offered by the University of Worcester will be entitled to a 10% discount on fees. This discount cannot be combined with any other discount offered by the University.   
      

FULL-TIME STUDENTS

Tuition Fees for UK and EU Students

For the academic year 2010/11, tuition fees for all new, full-time undergraduates (except Nursing and Midwifery students) at the University of Worcester will be £3,290. Financial help is available for both your fees and your living expenses.     
     
You can choose to pay your fees up front, or you can apply for a Student Loan for Tuition Fees.

Student Loan for Tuition Fees

The Government will pay tuition fees for most British and EU students and will offer you a loan for the amount. The money is paid direct to the University of Worcester on your behalf.       
      
You do not make any repayments while you are in full-time study. You only start to repay your loan when you have left your course and are earning over £15,000, if you are working in the UK. You only have to pay back 9% of your earnings above £15,000 a year, so someone earning £20,000 would only repay around £9 a week. If you stop working, you stop making repayments.      
      
The interest charged by the government on the student loan is much lower than commercial rates and is only intended to keep pace with inflation - changes in the cost of living.      
      
A student loan is an investment in your education. It will not affect your credit rating or your ability to take out a mortgage.

Student Loan for Cost of Living

You can apply for another low interest loan from the Government to help with living and studying expenses, including rent, food, books and transportation.     
     
The maximum loan for 2010/11 is £4,950 per year if you are living away from home, or £3,838 if you are living at your parent’s home. 75% of this loan is not means tested but 25% depends upon residual household income.     
     
Your loan is paid to you in three instalments, usually in September, January and April. Just like the loan for tuition fees, you do not repay your loan until you have left your course and are earning over £15,000 a year. The rate of interest is much lower than commercial rates and is only intended to keep pace with inflation.

Maintenance Grant

A maintenance grant is available from the Government, for eligible UK undergraduate students, to help you with your tuition fees and living expenses if your family income is less than £50,020.     
     
A full grant of £2,906 is available to you each year if the household income is £25,000 or less. A partial maintenance grant is available if your family income is between £25,001 and £50,020.  Maintenance grants are paid to you in three instalments, usually in September, January and April and do not have to be paid back.     
     
If you are in receipt of the maintenance grant then your cost of living loan is reduced by the amount of grant received, up to a maximum of £1,453 pa.

Applying for Loans and Grants

You apply for your loan for tuition fees, maintenance loan and maintenance grant on the same form. You can apply from the March before your course begins. Forms will be available from your Local Authority. Go to www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance for more information.

Bursaries

The University of Worcester’s Financial Support package means that all British and EU undergraduate students will have the chance to benefit from non-repayable financial support during their studies. Almost all students will automatically qualify for a bursary of £500 for each year of study.

If you begin your course in September your bursary will be paid in monthly instalments from December to April. Those students starting in January have their bursary amount paid pro rata.        
     
If you receive the full maintenance grant from the Government, your University of Worcester bursary will be increased by £270 to £770. If you receive a partial maintenance grant from the Government your University of Worcester bursary will be increased by £140 to £640.

Access to Learning Fund

The Access to Learning Fund enables Higher Education institutions to provide additional financial support to students whose access to education is inhibited by financial concerns.

Emergency Hardship Fund

The University of Worcester will have some emergency funds available for students whose ability to continue their studies is jeopardised by extreme hardship.

Disabled Students’ Allowance

If you have a disability, you’ll qualify for an allowance to cover any additional course costs that arise from that disability.

Other Grants and Bursaries

A number of other Government grants and allowances are available to students, including the Childcare Grant, the Adult Dependants Grant and the Parents Learning Allowance. For complete details telephone 01905 855141.

PGCE Students

For the academic year 2010/11, tuition fees for all Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) students at the University of Worcester will be £3,225. Students in receipt of a full maintenance grant will receive a £319 bursary.

PGCE students are eligible to apply for a Maintenance Grant of £2,906, of which the first £1,106 is available to all and the remaining £1,800 is dependent on household income.

In addition, further Training Bursaries of between £4,000 and £9,000 are available, depending on the subject studied.

UNDERGRADUATE PART-TIME STUDY

If you are studying on a part-time basis, you will pay £315 for each module with no bursary payable, if you enrol after September 2007. If your course is 50% or more of an equivalent full-time course (two or more modules per semester) you can apply for support towards your fee and course costs. 

The fees for part-time students who started in 06/07 is £425 (with a £200 bursary for the first four modules in one year). The fees for pre-06/07 starters is £205 per module.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Students who are European Union nationals for three years before their course begins pay the same fees as British students. Most full-time EU students will immediately qualify for a bursary of £500 for each year of study and will be able to apply for a tuition fee loan.
