Course Approval (including Course Scrutiny Group and Course Closure forms)

Initial approval has to be recommended by Course Scrutiny Group and endorsed by VCAG for all new course proposals, major and substantial changes (including changes to course or award titles), course closures and course suspensions.

Please submit your proposal to Sara Gibbon in AQU using the headings provided in the CSG Process Stage 1 Course Proposal Guidance Document

When CSG1 has confirmed that the proposal can progress, please complete CSG Stage 2 Course Proposal Form and CSG Stage 2 Course Proposal Costings

For collaborative courses with partners, please ALSO complete CSG Stage 2 Collaborative Provision Proposal Form

Please complete the Course Closure, Suspension and Substantial Change form in conjunction with the Course Closure Action Plan

If you are planning to develop a new course, please contact AQU and your IQC Chair in the first instance to arrange a preliminary meeting to discuss the process and timescales.

The Course Planning and Approval/Re-approval Process is the means by which the University approves all courses leading to an award granted by UW, either directly or via partnership arrangements. The development process is based upon a consultancy model carried out by the course team in discussion with internal and external specialists. The University takes a risk-based approach with regard to approving changes to modules and/or courses. The majority of changes to be made to existing provision can be approved through the Institute Quality Committees with the degree of external input varying according to the types of changes that may occur (see Appendix 15 below).
