UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR WINS WORCESTERSHIRE WOMAN OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
University of Worcester Professor, Jean Emberlin, has been honoured with the Woman of Achievement Award at this year’s Worcestershire Women of the Year Awards.
Professor Emberlin, who founded the National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit (NPARU) at the University of Worcester, received her award at a special luncheon, attended by over 400 women from around the county.
In announcing the award, the judges commended Jean’s leadership, her international profile and her commitment to the establishment of the NPARU.
The NPARU, whose activities include providing the national pollen forecast to the UK Media, and conducting research and consultancy on aerobiology (organic particles in the air), both for the outdoor and indoor environments. It covers a wide range of aspects including forensics, pollen monitoring, product testing, hay fever and asthma, distribution patterns in allergenic pollen and the dispersal of pollen from GM crops.
Commenting on her award, Professor Emberlin said: “It is such an honour to be recognised for this award. It’s a real credit to the hard work of all involved in the NPARU team and its partners, who have all played a crucial part in establishing this facility at the University of Worcester.”
University of Worcester Vice Chancellor, Professor David Green, said: “This award is fantastic recognition of Jean’s dedication to her work and research. She has helped to establish the National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit as a centre of international research, and I’m delighted she has received this award- the latest in a long line of fantastic achievements for Jean and her team.”
The Worcestershire Woman of the Year event was held in aid of St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester. The guest speaker was Ruth Badger, runner up in BBC show The Apprentice last year.
