A Sports Studies student from the University of Worcester is to represent England at a major bowls championship later this month.

Amy StantonTwenty-year-old Amy Stanton, from Taunton, won the England under 25 indoor singles bowling championship last year for the second consecutive year.

She is now hoping for similar success in the British Isles Championships, held in Perth, Scotland, from March 14.

Amy said: “I have done lots of training and so I’m hoping that I’m all ready for this competition.”

Amy was introduced to the sport by her father. She said: “I’ve been playing bowls since I was eight. Anyone who is interested in taking up bowls should just find their local club, have a few lessons with the club coach and go from there.”

Amy has been awarded a £500 scholarship grant to go towards her travel and training costs by the University’s Scholarship Panel, for the second time.

Glyn Harding, Sports Studies Lecturer, said: “We are really proud of Amy. She has had huge success in her sport and we are delighted to support her any way we can.”

The University of Worcester’s Scholarship Panel awards grants of up to £1,000 towards voluntary work or activities, to pursue a particular interest, i.e. music or arts, or towards course-related activities.
